Our survey was to find the average amount of time students at Fowler High School spend on Facebook a day. Liz, Anna and I chose a random sample of 30 students. The sample mean was 15.5 minutes which is the average minutes that people spend on Facebook per day from our sample. We used the same process to find the sample standard deviation and that was 8.03. Our null hypothesis is that it’s equal to 20, because that is what the article says is the world wide average. Our alternate hypothesis is is less than 20 because that’s what we found from our sample mean. The level of significance that we plan to use is .05 and we will use to subtract the p-value from and if the p-value is smaller than .05 then the alternate null hypothesis will be rejected. Based on this data we can be fairly confident that Fowler High School students spend less than 20 minutes on Facebook per day.
